If you are searching for a rewarding and satisfying job, consider becoming a security guard. First, you must fulfill a number of requirements to become a licensed private security guard.  In California, one must be BSIS licensed and at least 18 years of age to be employed as a security guard. If you meet these basic criteria, you can enroll with Access Control Security (ACS).

ACS is a digital security guard training platform that offers BSIS courses to its candidates. ACS trainers ensure the training session meets the state requirements. The trainers of ACS are qualified industry experts who have a deep understanding of the security guard job role. The training is presented in a straightforward manner for better understanding. For this reason, various discussions, role-playing and interactive sessions are conducted for the candidates.  The basic training course for becoming a part-time security guard consists of:

  1. Power to Arrest (4 hours) – This course introduces the candidate to the job role and legal aspects of security guards. The Department of Consumer Affairs’ Power to Arrest Training Manual is the main source of reference for this training.
  2. Weapons of Mass Destruction (4 hours) – This course introduces the candidate to techniques of inspecting, identifying and reporting precursor activities of terrorist events. The “Department of Consumer Affairs’ Weapons of Mass Destruction & Terrorism Awareness for Security Professionals course” is the main source of reference for this training which includes a Digital Video Disk (DVD), Student Workbook and Facilitator Manual.

Once the candidate completes the above training, their background check is conducted by the FBI to ensure they don’t have past criminal records. Once the report comes back clean, an interim guard card license is provided to the candidate so that they can get employed as a part-time security guard. If they desire to work on a full-time basis, another 32 hours of training must be completed.  The first 16 hours of training must be completed within 30 days of getting their guard card license. Another 16 hours of training must be completed within 6 months of getting guard card approval.
