Security guard companies receive requests from clients for armed security guards. Armed guards provide a vital service in protecting people and property. The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) issues firearm permits to qualified applicants.

Firearm Permit Requirements. BSIS requires applicants to complete criminal history background checks through the FBI and California DOJ. Applicants must also successfully complete security guard classes and BSIS firearms training. Applicants then go through an assessment to determine whether they possess the proper judgment, restraint and self-control to carry a firearm on duty.

Applicants need to be at least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident. Of course, an applicant who wants to be a licensed California security guard will need to complete the BSIS security guard training program.

Carrying a firearm while on duty as a security guard requires an extra level of training. Contact  Access Control Security to learn more about security guard licensing and training by going to https://www.247GuardTraining.com or calling 877-482-7324.
