A new California Assembly Bill was signed by the governor that will now require additional security training for those applying for their security guard license. AB 229 directs the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) to develop curriculum and mandatory training courses on how to apply the appropriate use of force by private security guards.
Commission on Peace Officer Standards. The new training requirements will be developed with input from the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, which sets training standards for California police officers. The new training curriculum will go into effect by 2023.
As the number of security guards increases throughout the state, guards are asked to take on more responsibilities. In some cases, guards are confronted by violent individuals. This additional training will give guards the tools and confidence they need to subdue a perpetrator while following proper legal procedures. At Access Control Security, we welcome the additional training–training that will keep everyone (including guards) much safer.
